Craft Room Organization With Dollar Tree and Target!

In today’s video we are re-organizing the craft room using some DOLLAR TREE & Target STORAGE SOLUTIONS and we are beginning a new SPRING FEVER SERIES all about getting our homes clean and organized for spring TOGETHER!

My CRAFT ROOM/OFFICE is a hard working space. This is where I am the most creative, where I work on DIY's and do projects with my kids.

Although I have a cube & bin system to hold all of my craft tools and supplies, I find that I still need to find storage solutions to keep it all sorted by project and to keep like items together.

Target and The Dollar Tree have always been my go to places to find budget friendly solutions to my storage needs, even if I need to think OUT of the box a bit!

This Dollar Tree dish rack can be used so many different ways! Organizing office supplies, files or, as I'm going to use it, to hold my vinyl for my Cricut Machine.

To see how I use more Dollar Tree items, be sure to watch the video below!

Over the next few week I will be uploading videos organizing rooms in my HOME just in time for SPRING. In this SPRING FEVER SERIES I hope we can motivate each other to get a head start cleaning and organizing our homes before spring hits and so many fun activities take you away from home.

I will also be posting photos, tips and products that I am using to help me reach my goal over on the MY BASHFUL LIFE FACEBOOK page. To follow along, click this LINK to my FACEBOOK and join the fun. I would love for all of you to post photos of your projects and any tips you have to organize the spaces in your HOME

Craft Room Tour and Desk Organization

Today I take you on a tour of one of my favorite rooms in my house; the craft room!  Plus I give you 5 Organizing tips to help keep all your craft supplies stored away.  My craft space is a reclaimed room that was once used by many of my kids as a bedroom at one time or another. This room was empty since my son went off to law school and we decided to create a space where I can store my MANY craft supplies, work on projects and prepare lesson plans for school.  I am very happy with the results and it has proven to be a wonderful space to find some quiet time.

I had many requests to give a desk organization tour.  I am very fortunate that my craft room has so much organizational space that I only have to keep essentials in my desk.  In the video below, I take you through my desk and show you how I keep everything organized and at my finger tips!

Thank you so much for watching today and I hope you will visit me on YouTube at My Bashful Life where I share more great organizing tips, recipes and decorating!  Thank you for spending some of your day with me and until next time, I hope you love the life that you have and I will see you soon!

DIY Spring Wreath

One of the easiest ways to welcome the new season into your home is with a new front door wreath.  This is the time of year when all the designer catalogs start to arrive at the door full of beautiful and expensive home decor.   Usually the wreaths in these catalogs are well over a $100.  I don't know about you, but I sure could not afford to spend over $100 dollars on a new wreath so I make my own!  I use those beautiful designer catalogs to pick out an inspiration wreath to copy and then I visit my local Michael's Craft store to collect the materials I'll need.  It's easier then you may think to make a beautiful unique wreath for your front door.  Come along and I'll show you how I make mine.

Once the inspiration wreath is chosen, its time to hit the craft stores to collect the supplies needed to complete your project.  Of course you will need greenery and flowers, but there are 5 essential items that I always use when creating a wreath.

Of course you will need a wreath form, I like to use a wispy grapevine wreath.  These wreaths give much more space to work with than the tightly bound grapevine wreaths.  An adhesive such as E600 which is a transparent craft glue that is heat resistant.  Craft wire cutters, floral wire and felt pads.

The first thing I do is turn the wreath over and glue on the felt pads.  Grapevine wreaths are pokey and can scratch your door, the felt pads protect your door from damage.

While the felt pads are drying, use the wire cutters to separate the branches of the greenery and flowers.  This way you will not have to stop to cut more supplies while you are assembling the wreath.

I start my wreath by filling in with the greenery.  I first place the cuttings between the twigs of the grapevine, making sure to keep each side balanced.  Once I am happy with the placement, I can go back and wire the vines in using the floral wire.

To secure the greenery in place, cut a few inches of floral wire.  Feed the wire through and under the wreath, bringing both edges of the wire together and tighten by twisting the wire a few times.  Be sure to place the wire between the leaves to keep it out of sight.  Snip off the ends of the wire and your greenery is secured and won't be blown the street!

Once all the greenery is in place, it's time to start on arranging the flowers.  In my inspiration picture the white flowers are arranged in a horseshoe shape that I will try to copy.

Continue to fill in the flowers until you are happy with the placement and then secure them with the floral wire in the same way we did the greenery.  Hang the wreath up on a door where you are able to get a good look at it.  You are looking to see if the wreath is balanced on both sides, there are no empty spots  and that the flowers are full and fluffed.

Your creation may not match the inspiration picture exactly, but your wreath is unique and was created by you for less then a quarter of it's designer price tag!  You really can't beat that!

Books and Crafts: Getting Preschoolers Excited About Books

If there is one piece of advise that I always pass along to my preschoolers parents is: READ TO THEM.  Read to them every day, everywhere, all the time!  The love of reading is a gift, a true gift that keeps on giving.  Reading will fill children's days with adventure, hearts with joy and brains with knowledge.  Children are never too young to be read to.  As infants, the rhythmic tone of a voice can be soothing, helping a baby drift off to sleep or calm themselves.  As a toddler, reading with your child is a wonderful way to bond, sitting close together not only is comforting for the child but can help the reader relax too.

Creating activities around a child's favorite book is a great way to keep them engaged in reading.  Crafts and Books are a natural pairing.  As a continuing series I will be sharing Book and Craft combos that are easy to recreate with your favorite young reader.  Are you ready for the first installment?

The Lady with the Alligator Purse by Nadine Bernard Westcott is a silly easy read book that is sure to become a favorite.  Teamed with an A for Alligator.  Go ahead, dig out those scissors, Elmer's glue and buy a new pack of construction paper.  Get ready for a few giggles and a few sticky fingers!

READ TO THEM!

xoxo,
Mickey
