Planning dinners for the week and the grocery list that goes along with it takes me less then an hour on a Sunday morning. You need only 3 things to meal plan; your daily planner (calendar), a notebook and a bunch of tried and true family recipes. To begin, I go through my planner for the week to see what our evenings look like. Who has practice, a scout meeting or any after school activity. I also check if we have any dinner plans away from home. In my notebook I lay out the week in a very simple grid, Monday through Sunday. Every week I make a big pot of soup and a freezer crock pot meal. These crock pot meals are meals that I prepare in advance and freeze in a gallon zip-lock bag.
These are great to have on hand when our days are tight. Soup is a healthy way to always have a meal on hand. Soup is perfect to pack in lunches and also for a quick dinner paired up with a sandwich or salad.

Love Your Life,
Hi there Mickey,
ReplyDeleteI have a problem with meal planning and my goal is to get better at it. I need to look at the calendar too and see who will be home or not and what we think we will be in the mood to eat. I love using the crock pot too. Thanks so much for inspiring me to do better planning.

Hi Julie,
DeleteThank you for visiting! My best advice is to keep your meal planning simple. Just having an idea of what your making for dinner ahead of time helps so much! I hope you will come back to visit again!
xoxo Mickey
I so struggle with meal planning. I know the importance and how it would relive that daily " what's for dinner" I just need to make myself do it. Thanks for reminding me of the importance this is along with all my other planning
ReplyDeleteOnce you get started it gets easier to plan your meals for the week. Thank you so much for visiting, I hope you took a minute to subscribe!

Your collection of recipes is amazing! And so organized! There are weeks I do great at menu planning and weeks that totally fail. I find that when I am already stressed it is just overwhelming... which stinks because those are the times I need a plan the most!
ReplyDeleteHi Branson, You are so right the days when you need planning the most you are just too tired to do it. What I do is I keep a file of all my old menu planning and I just do not have the time or energy to plan our meals, I pulled out an old menu from weeks ago . It works great and no one knows the difference!

This is helpful, and I plan on going back to read your other posts in this series! It takes me forever to plan! So you make the soup and crockpot meal on Sundays? How many meals does the soup normally give you? I dream of a day where meal planning is as quick and easy as how you do it!
ReplyDeleteHi Angie,
DeleteI'm so glad this post helped. I find I can get 2 meals out of a large pot of soup for our family of 6. Along with a few bowls for lunches too.
Xoxo. Mickey
I need to start doing this again!!
